Complaining Will Make Your Recovery Harder
It is hard to hear when you or someone close to has been diagnosed. All sorts of things go through your head. Your life has been disrupted, and you have so many questions. I get it. But here's the thing, mindset is everything when dealing with a critical illness, and the people around you. I am sure you have heard by now to stay positive. And it's true, staying positive will get you through certain situations, and help you to recover faster. One thing I urge you not to do, is to complain about it. Research has shown the complaining can lead to negative thoughts. The last thing you need when dealing with a critical illness is negative thoughts, it is a waste of energy. If you are in a funky mood, you are entitled, but don't stay there for to long. Try your best to snap out of it, do do something you like. Tell your friends to stop talking about the illness, and change to subject to something entertaining or fun. Keep positive people in your life and feed off of their good energy. Think about what makes you smile, go for a walk and listen to your favorite music. Take up a hobby, watch a funny movie, read a good book, facetime with the little ones in your life; that's sure to put a smile on your face.
Sometimes people say dumb things, because they don't know what to say to you. Don't let that get you down, ignore them and move on. Your one job in this process is to get better, so focus on that. Move around and about like normal as much as you can. Don't get frustrated when you are unable to do some of the things that you use to; its ok, just alter how you do things. Don't get annoyed, get happy. If for some reason you are really struggling with this, talk to your doctor, they may have some options for you. Don't be ashamed of talking to your doctor about things other than your cancer. Talk to them about what ever is going on with you so they can guide you appropriately. The truth is sometimes the medications have an adverse impact on behaviors, so please consult your doctor.
So for now, get up and stretch and take a deep breath and exhale. Get out and do something that will make you smile.
